Sport at Eton End School aims to support the overall ethos of the school by giving our pupils the opportunities to participate in a balanced and varied programme of physical activity. The programme of activities aims to enable and encourage each and every child to benefit from regular exercise, whilst developing individual skills, capability and improving personal development. Pupils are expected to demonstrate the very highest standards of sportsmanship in all lessons and fixtures.

Nursery and Pre-Prep Sport

In Nursery, the children have weekly specialist teacher input for Games and PE to develop their initial coordination and ball skills.

As the children move into Reception and through the Pre-Prep, the sporting opportunities grow and children learn key fundamental movement skills, basic tactical skills, teamwork and invasion games which they can then apply to sport specific activities as they progress through to Prep.

Weekly swimming lessons held at Eton College Indoor Swimming pool are taught to Year 1 and 2 for half of the year each by staff with the relevant swimming and lifesaving qualifications. The pupils are grouped by the teaching staff according to ability. There are three ability groups per session. Pupils are assessed at the beginning of term and are continuously monitored to ensure they are in the correct swimming group.

In the Prep School, pupils continue to develop and build on their fundamental movement skills and begin to apply them to sport specific games of Football, Tag Rugby, Dodgeball, Cricket, Netball, Hockey and Rounders as well as Gymnastics, Athletics and Dance.  Swimming in the Prep School is taught weekly for the whole academic year. All physical education is delivered by fully qualified and specialist teaching staff.

Pupils in the Prep school start to compete in competitive fixtures and tournaments as part of the Physical Education programme.  There are also opportunities to represent their House in interschool sporting competitions which includes an annual Sports Day and Swimming Gala.

We use external facilities such as the Eton College Indoor Swimming Pool, which is located on the Eton College site.  We also use the Thames Valley Athletics Centre for lessons as well as our annual Prep school Sports Day; the Pre-Prep and Nursery children have a separate Sports Day within the school grounds.
